It's a new year, it's January which means one thing, entertaining the crowds in the freezing cold at Whittlesea Straw Bear. This event falls out of the normal summer dance out season but it's a great event to do in cold winter months.
This was our first time at Straw Bear and what a great time we had. We were limited in our dances as we only had four dancers but we hope we put on a great show. We had lots of other dancers and members of the public come up to us complimenting us on our dancing.
The Saturday started with the procession where we did our fairly knackering processional of Old Tom of Oxford, this was followed by 4 dance spots through the day dancing with Molly, Northwest, Rapper, Longsword, Border and other Cotswold sides, finishing off at the finale spot at the Market Square

After all the dancing was finished we all went for a team meal as we were all cold and hungry by this point, to be fair it was one of the tastiest pizzas we've ever had! At this point Gemma, Bob and George went back to Ham Towers while Rhys and I went back to the incredibly warm indoor camping and manage to haggle a couple of ceilidh tickets. (Ceilidh dancing isn't the best thing to do after a long days dancing, well not the way we do it.)
After getting very little sleep the smaller nature of the Sunday proceedings was very welcome. We did two dances inside the school before going out for the burning of the bear. A very enjoyable end to a fantastic weekend, hopefully an event that will be in our calendars for years to come!
